Jeffrey StirlingMusic Director
Dr. Jeffrey Stirling is in his fifth season as Music Director of the Saint Paul Civic Symphony. Stirling has conducted symphonic concerts and opera in North America and Europe. In recent seasons he has been a guest conductor with the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and been a cover conductor for the Minnesota Orchestra. Stirling also has appeared as guest conductor with the Duluth-Superior Orchestra, Skylark Opera and other regional orchestras. In November 2008 Stirling traveled to Nagasaki, Japan as a member of Saint Paul Mayor Chris Coleman’s official Sister City delegation and conducted our “Sister Orchestra” the Nagasaki Symphony in a rehearsal of Beethoven’s ninth symphony. |
| Dr. Stirling holds degrees from Yale and Northwestern universities, and pursued advanced studies at the Paris Conservatory under the auspices of the Fondation des Etats-Unis. He also has participated in the conducting programs at the Tanglewood and Salzburg music festivals and at the Fontainebleau School. In 2001 Stirling was chosen by Leonard Slatkin to take part in the National Conducting Institute with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D. C. Dr. Stirling’s mentors have included Victor Yampolsky, Seiji Ozawa, Pierre Boulez and the late Charles Bruck. |  |

Dr. Stirling is also sought after as an educator. Since 2002 he has been a conductor with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies and in past years served as Interim Director of Orchestral Studies at the University of Minnesota School of Music as well as directing orchestras at St. Olaf, Luther and Gustavus Adolphus colleges, and the University of Northern Iowa and St. Cloud State University. He also has been a guest instructor for the Chamber Music Association of the University of Lausanne in Switzerland. |
